Lampedusa – EU360

Evropa je (deklarativno) spet v šoku. Na poti v tisto obljubljeno Evropo, ki ljudem z afriške celine, ki nimajo česar več izgubiti, po vsej verjetnosti predstavlja obljubljeno deželo, je ponovno utonilo veliko ljudi. Točnih številk ne ve nihče. V ladji, ki je v nedeljo potonila ob Malti in Lampedusi naj bi bilo 950 ljudi, na tisti, ki se je v ponedeljek prevrnila pri Rodosu pa naj bi jih bilo še vsaj 200. Nekaterim se je uspelo rešiti, vendar jih bo velika večina za vedno ostala v Sredozemskem morju. Po podatkih Mednarodne organizacije za migracije (IOM) naj bi v lanskem letu v Sredozemskem morju izginilo 3.279 ljudi, do 19. aprila letos pa že skoraj 1.600. Za koliko se bo ta številka morala še povečati, da bo Evropa (EU in njene države) ukrepala?

Europe is again under shock. Some of them were rescued, but the vast majority will forever remain in the Mediterranean. Based on the data of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) the Mediterranean took last year 3.279 people, while until the 19 April of this year already 1.600. For how much have this number to rise, that Europe (the EU and its Member States) will react?
